Course Description:
We'll begin by exploring the fundamentals of designing a quilt layout. You'll then learn how to thread your sewing machine, load a bobbin, and operate the machine with confidence, including controlling stitch length and tension. As we progress, you'll practice basting, quilting, and binding with your instructor guiding you step by step to complete your quilt. By the end of the class, you'll have a beautiful chevron quilt and the foundational skills to continue your quilting journey!

Understanding different types of fabrics, how to choose appropriate fabrics for quilting.
Familiarity with the sewing machine, including threading the machine, winding the bobbin, adjusting tension, and basic maintenance.
Proper use of rotary cutters, cutting mats, and rulers to cut fabric pieces accurately.
Basic piecing skills, including how to sew a consistent 1/4-inch seam allowance, chain piecing, and pressing seams.
Introduction to simple quilt blocks. How to start the creation of chevron blocks.
How to arrange and sew quilt blocks together to create a quilt top, including layout planning and ensuring seams align correctly.
Techniques for layering the quilt sandwich (backing, batting, and quilt top), methods for basting (pin, spray, or thread), and basic quilting techniques.
How to prepare and attach quilt binding, including mitered corners and hand-finishing the binding for a professional look.
